The World of the Egtved Girl
Discover The World of the Egtved Girl – a museum in nature, right where the Egtved Girl was laid to rest 3,400 years ago.

The World of the Egtved Girl takes you back to the Bronze Age. The museum is located at Egtved Holt, on the very site where the Egtved Girl was buried on a summer’s day around 3,400 years ago. Here, one of Denmark’s best-known Bronze Age finds is told in the landscape where the story took place.
The Egtved Girl was buried in 1370 BCE. The grave lay hidden beneath the mound for several thousand years until farmer Peder Platz discovered it in 1921. The find included a rare, well-preserved woollen outfit, valuable grave goods and traces of a young woman aged around 16 to 18. The coffin also contained the cremated bones of a child aged approximately 5 to 6.
A museum turned inside out
The World of the Egtved Girl is not a traditional museum with walls and display cases. The stories have been moved out into nature, where you can experience them with your body, senses and curiosity. Your visit can begin in the exhibition building before continuing around the burial mound and on to five storytelling zones with space for play, reflection and new knowledge.
The Bronze Age was a large and connected world. People travelled far, traded and exchanged goods, ideas and stories across Europe. The Ancient Road, Hærvejen, was an important route south, where Nordic amber could be exchanged for sought-after materials such as glass, gold and bronze. At The World of the Egtved Girl, this history becomes present in the landscape where the Egtved Girl once lived.
The museum is open every day and admission is always free.
